We are delighted that you have decided to visit this stunning area of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons National Park. 

Your hosts are Helen & John Dunne, you may also see our adult children, Zachary & Grace, if they are not at Uni. We want you to have an enjoyable, safe and relaxing stay with us. We believe our accommodation will be the perfect spot to “just be”.  Offering you private occupancy, great views and the essential creature comforts to ensure your visit is free of worry and space to enjoy our stunning surroundings. Built in 1901, Tegfan Garden Suite was formerly a Victorian greenhouse providing produce to the local residents. Now Tegfan offers you a secluded garden getaway and escape to the country situated in Talgarth, a small traditional market town where the little rivers Enig and Ellywe flow from the Black Mountains.

Tegfan Garden Suite faces Mynydd Troed, within the Talgarth Conservation Area, just 1.5 miles from Bronllys Castle and a short walk to the beautiful Pwll-y-Wrach Nature Reserve. ALARMS

If sounded please evacuate and leave by the entrance door or window and gather by the front porch/pergula in the front garden.

BOOT STORE

After walking and enjoying the great outdoors, please remove your boots and place in the boot store at the front door.

 CATERING OPTIONS

Tegfan Garden Suite is self-catering, however, if you would like to book meals, please give 48hours notice and check with Helen for availability. Meals provided for 2 persons minimum.

 BREAKFAST (by pre-arrangement) Generous Continental Breakfast - £12.50 p.p.

EVENING MEALS (by pre-arrangement) A home cooked seasonal 3-course dinner - £35.00 p.p.

Helen’s very own Black Mountains award winning Welsh Preserves, Freshly Baked Bread from Pobl Bakery in Talgarth (normally a Breakfast loaf bursting with fruit, Welsh Cakes made in Bronllys, our very own eggs from our Tegfan hens and a few more seasonal goodies.

Fridge: you’ll find Welsh Butter, Welsh Cheese, Welsh Yoghurt, a local Welsh Apple Juice and a little Milk.

Hospitality Tray: Selection of Tea, Coffee & Sugar sachets suitable for a couple of days

Nespresso Coffee Machine: Four pods provided

(We are doing what we can to help the environment, so please leave the re-useable butter dish and glass milk bottle when you depart for Helen to clean and re-use)

CHECK IN/OUT TIME

·      Check in is from 4pm-7pm

·      Checkout time is 10.00am, this is to make sure that we can action change over, clean and be sanitised ready for the next guests. Thank you for your understanding.

COVID-19

If you have any COVID-19 symptoms during your stay please let us know.

CYCLING

Please ask if you need secure cycle storage as this is available – please make us aware prior to arrival if needed. Local Bike Hire is also available via Drovers Cycles and bookable prior to arrival.

DISHWASHER

Please see individual laminate instruction guide sheet in the kitchen. Two dishwasher tablets are provided. Upon departure, all utensils, crockery & kitchen equipment to be left washed and clean .

DOCTOR

Should you experience any COVID-19 symptoms or need a Dr please inform Helen or John immediately.  We will then help you as required. The nearest Doctor’s surgery is located in Talgarth -01874 713000

EN-SUITE SHOWER

There are two pull switches one powers the shower (near the door) just pull the electric on/off switch. The second (near the sink) operates the hot water both for the bathroom and kitchen.  The bathroom cabinet has LED lighting – just place your hand under the cabinet to turn on and then again to turn off. Bathroom toiletries have been sterilised. We are stockists of local Brecon Beacons Cwtch soaps; these are for you to enjoy during your stay – please feel free to take the remaining soap bar home with you.

FIRST AID

A first aid kit is available upon request.

FLOWERS/GIFTS/BOTTLE or FAVOURITE TIPPLE

Can be pre-ordered or arranged for you, just book with Helen.  If you would like to visit a florist, we would recommend either Vanessa @Floralness, Talgarth 07535 633084 or The Hay Flower Shop Hay-on-Wye 01497 820106.

GAMES/DVD’s

A selection of board games and DVD’s for all the family are in the sideboard.  These have been sanitised. Please feel free to use but may we ask that you leave them out if they have been used or touched so that we can sanitise again prior to further use.

HEATING/FAN

We have fitted heaters, these can be set on timers or turned on/off independently.  We have provided a fan to ease hot (fingers crossed!) summer evenings.

HOT WATER

HOUSEKEEPING

Current C19 hospitality guidelines do not recommend that we offer daily housekeeping.

·      Please leave your bins or re-cycling basket outside the door if you would like these emptying during your stay.

Please report any accidental damages as soon as possible to minimise damage and any associated future costs. Prior to check out, please ensure all utensils, crockery & kitchen equipment are cleaned, put away in a similar condition as you found it upon arrival and leave the accommodation neat and tidy. Please note deposits will be returned based upon compliance of our housekeeping T’s & C’s.

HOB/OVEN/GRILL/MICROWAVE

Please see individual laminate instruction guide sheets in the kitchen. Please make sure the isolator switch near the kettle is on to use the Hob.

IRON and ironing board are in the wardrobe.

KEY

The key fob provide has a Yale and Chubb key. Please use both keys for security during your stay. Please leave the key in the door upon departure.

KITCHEN FACILITIES

Facilities include a dishwasher (2x dishwasher tablets) full size oven, 2x ring hob, under-counter fridge with small ice compartment, (this will make a little humming noise due to the thermostat) microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, toaster and hospitality tray. Crockery, cutlery and expected kitchen equipment. How to use the Hob/Oven/Dishwasher are in the kitchen drawers. A tea-towel, washing up liquid, kitchen spray and cleaning cloth are provided and situated under the sink.

The property will have been cleaned, sanitised, and inventory checked.

 NEWSAGENT

The nearest shop to buy the local and national papers is the Co-Op in Talgarth, it also hosts our local Post Office.

 OUTDOOR FURNITURE

Table, chairs, and sun-brolly are available for use in your own section of the garden.

 RECYCLING/RUBBISH

Tegfan Garden Suite is delighted to be a part of the green growth pledge. It would be very much appreciated if you could help us proactively manage our environment sustainable impacts. We have 3 options:

  1. Under the sink you will see a compost bin (for green waste)

  2. A small bin for non-recyclable rubbish is under the sink. 

  3. A basket near the doorway is for any recycling (e.g. newspapers, plastic bottles, glass bottles, cans).

Please leave your bins or re-cycling basket outside the door if you would like these emptying during your stay.

STARGAZING from the garden!

Tegfan Garden Suite is situated in the heart of the Brecon Beacons International Dark Sky Reserve one of only 18 Dark Sky Reserves globally. On a clear night, you can see the Milky Way, major constellations, bright nebulas and even meteor showers. Llangorse Lake, Hay Bluff and Llanthony Priory are all nearby and known for the best stargazing viewing spots in the Brecon Beacons National Park. There are some very handy podcasts which you can download to help you to know what you can see in the sky at any particular month. For more tips and the full list of best places to visit for stargazing in the BBNP click on the link, it’s enough to make anyone starry eyed!

 SHOPS,  FOOD MARKETS & SUPERMARKETS

We are lucky to have a small Co-Op, Butchers, Deli and Bakers in Talgarth so please visit and support local. A weekly artisan food market operates on a Thursday in Hay-on-Wye. Brecon Market is Tuesday and Fridays with a monthly Farmers Market on the second Saturday of the month.

Helen will be regularly trading through Spring & Summer with her Black Mountains Preserves, so don’t hesitate to ask and Helen will let you know where the best options are during your stay. Helen will be at Craig-Y-Nos Farmers Market on the second Sunday of every month.

Aldi, Morrisons and Co-Op are all in Brecon, as well as many local produce stores offering a wide selection of goods.

T’S & C’s

On registration and confirmation of booking, you and the members of your party are agreeing to leave the property in a similar condition as you found it when you arrived, ie all utensils, crockery & kitchen equipment to be left washed and the property left clean and tidy. Losses, breakages, damage, or any unnecessary/extra cleaning will be charged to you. To ease this situation if anything happens or you aware of any breakages or damage please alert Helen during your stay.

TELEVISION & XBOX -360

See separate instructions for use in the dresser beneath the TV. The X'Box enables you to watch DVD’s or Play X’BOX Games. See controls and Instructions.  Please ask John if not clear.

THEATRE

Theatr Brycheiniog is our local Theatre, check out their current performances online. It is situated at Brecon Canal Wharf which is perfect for you to enjoy a relaxing walk along the canal. A great café and menu with outside dining options are available.

· Black Mountains Activities - Three Cocks, various outdoor activities

· Llangorse Activity Centre - rock climbing, horse riding

· Llangorse lake you can hire pedaloes or rowing boats

· The Big Pit - go underground to a real mine

· Drovers Cycles - Hay -on-Wye for Cycle hire – pre-book and they will bring bikes to the door

· Dragonfly cruises for an organised trip or hire your own day boat on the Brecon & Monmouth Canal

· Black Mountains Gliding Club - trial flight

· We have so many outdoor spaces to explore and I'd recommend a circular route starting up at Hay Bluff (bring a kite to fly!) head onto  Llanthony Priory, The Church of Martin in Cwmyoy (leans more than the leaning tower of Pisa) Crickhowell village ideal for lunch at the Dragon Inn or The Bear for lunch/supper. Finally on the way home why not pop by Llangorse Lake before returning to Talgarth.

TOURIST INFORMATION

We have left some information leaflets in one of the kitchen island cupboards. Helen is always happy to help arrange an itinerary to suit your interests. To assist you further Talgarth has a volunteer led information centre in the main square. Visit Brecon information centre is situated in Lions Street and the team will be more than happy to guide you through experiences you are looking for. Also check out our local tourism body Brecon Beacons Tourism for the latest ideas, attractions and activities.

WATER

Our Water is from our own bore hole, and delivered to you, via a fully filtered UV system, so it tastes very pure. Water is very precious, so please think of the environment and do not waste it.

Hot water is supplied by a standalone electric heating system for both the en-suite & kitchen. To operate please pull the control switch from the ceiling in the bathroom.

WALKS

For local Talgarth walks please see the local walking guide, in your confirmation email. We are ideally situated for walking straight from the doorstep, from a gentle stroll to Pwyll-y-Wrach Waterfall, Bronllys Castle or Talgarth Water Mill to more challenging mountain walks around the peaks of the Black Mountains or Brecon Beacons.
